What is SWEY?

The nation-wide communication contest, event, 'SWEY' (-Speak, Write & Express Yourself), will provide an excellent opportunity for kids & youth from age groups of 7 yrs - 25yrs to showcase their communication skills. 

The event includes  3 categories of competitions; public speaking, creative writing, and visual expression. There will be a grand finale where the selected finalists will perform in front of the chief guest and a huge audience.

"The true mark of Leadership is to work towards uplifting the community as a whole.

The brainchild of one of our certified trainers, SWEY is a community service project where youth leaders join to give back to the community. All proceeds generated from SWEY will be donated to non-profit organizations.

2022 Sole Beneficiary: South Asian Mental Health Initiative & Network (SAMHIN) is dedicated to addressing a wide variety of mental health needs of the South Asian Community in the United States.  SAMHIN is a team of dedicated, multifaceted, determined, and passionate doctors, psychiatrists, and nurses with a strong desire to help uncover and fight mental illness in the South Asian community.

SAMHIN actively involves in the following year-round activties.

  • Educate, engage, and empower the South Asian community to promote mental health literacy.

  • Serve as a resource to provide consultation to health care policymakers and health care delivery facilities.

  • Increase collaboration between existing mental health organizations that address specific aspects of mental illness, increase awareness of the existence and roles of these organizations and decrease fragmentation in services provided to the community.

  • Promote and conduct research on mental health to serve the South Asian community in the U.S.

  • Develop a searchable database of South Asian mental health care providers, social services, and mental health resources to improve access to mental health care.

  • Overcome the stigma of mental illness.

  • Explore ways of making affordable treatment services available.

Public Speaking Contest Information
Registration Fee: $10 per entry per child
Entry 1: Public Speaking

Topic: Will be announced at the event.

Age Groups:  Elementary, Middle & High School

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

 

Duration of Speech:

  1. Elementary School: 2 min

  2. Middle School : 3 min

  3. High School: 4 min

Creative Writing Contest Information
Registration Fee: $10 per entry per child
Entry 2: Creative Writing

 

Activity: Essay Writing (or) Short Story 

Topic: The topic will be announced at the event.

Age Groups:  Elementary, Middle & High School

 

Writing Time: 45 minutes (For Elementary & Middle School)

Writing Time: 60 minutes (For High School)

Visual Expressions Contest Information

Registration Fee: $10 per entry per child

Entry 3: Visual Expressions

 

1. Age Group:  Elementary School

    Activity: Make a Collage (using pictures) 

    Topic: 'Collage of Emotions'

    Submission deadline: March 25, at 11:59 p.m EST 

    (Late submissions will not be accepted)

 

2. Age Group:  Middle School

    Activity: Artwork (drawing, painting, pastels, etc.) 

    Topic: 'Nostalgia'

    Submission deadline: March 25, at 11:59 p.m EST 

    (Late submissions will not be accepted)

3. Age Group:  High School

    Activity: Artwork (drawing, painting, pastels, etc.) 

    Topic: 'Self-perception'

    Submission deadline: March 25, at 11:59 p.m EST

  • Who can participate in SWEY?

Anyone attending elementary, middle, or high school in the USA who wishes to showcase their communication skills can participate. (Check out the age groups on the flyer.)

 

  • Is it too late to register for SWEY?

No. You have to register before March 22, 2022.

  • Why should I participate in SWEY?

Opportunities to showcase your talents are rare, especially ones that are not pressurizing are rarer. SWEY would be a great platform to express your thoughts, verbally, visually, or in writing.

  • What do I gain by registering for SWEY?

Firstly, participants will l be recognized with certificates.
Secondly, your participation will help a non-profit organization survive better.

2020 Sole Beneficiary: Asha for Education is a secular organization dedicated to change in India by focusing on basic education in the belief that education is a critical requisite for socio-economic change.
